New Franklin thanks state leaders for commitment to sewer project

NEW FRANKLIN — A plan to bring sewer service to New Franklin’s main commercial corridor on state Route 93 recently received a significant shot in the arm via $3.8 million in One-Time Strategic Community Investment Fund dollars from the state of Ohio.
City Council July 17 recognized Sen. Kristina Roegner (R- District 27) and state Reps. Jack Daniels (R-District 32) and Bill Roemer (R-District 31) for their work in securing the funding. Mayor Paul Adamson said the city has long struggled to bring sewer to this area, and the current project to connect with the Barberton Wastewater Treatment plant has been estimated to cost between $16 million and $18 million, with around $6.5 million in county and federal funds already secured.
Adamson said concurrent with learning of the One-Time Strategic Community Investment Fund award, the city has been informed the sewer project could be completed for $10 million by eliminating one of the two originally proposed package plants.
